SAN DIEGO — UCLA true freshman quarterback Dante Moore earned his first college start in the road opener against San Diego State on Saturday.
Moore and redshirt junior quarterback Ethan Garbers saw significant playing time in UCLA’s season-opening victory against Coastal Carolina.
Moore completed 7 of 12 passes for two touchdowns and an interception in his debut at the Rose Bowl. Garbers finished 10 of 17 for a touchdown and two interceptions.
Fans were vocal on social media and at the Rose Bowl with the desire to see more playing time for Moore. Moore was named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watchlist in August.
Both Moore and Garbers are expected to split time with Kent State transfer Collin Schlee. Schlee did not play in the season opener despite Chip Kelly’s initial declaration that all three will play in the first game.
INJURY REPORT
UCLA linebacker Ale Kaho was unavailable for the San Diego State game. He was spotted wearing a boot on his right foot during pregame warmups.
He played in the season opener against Coastal Carolina but didn’t record a tackle. Kaho missed all of last season due to an injury. His brother, Vai Kaho, is a senior linebacker for the Aztecs.
